My Biography

Toshikazu Hori was born in Hikone, Shiga, Japan in 1950. He received the B.E., M.E. and Dr. Eng. degrees from Kanazawa University, Japan, in 1974, 1976 and 1993, respectively.
In 1976,
he joined the Electrical Communications Laboratories, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (now, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, NTT), Yokosuka, Japan. Since joining NTT, he has been engaged in the research and development of fixed and mobile earth station antennas for Japanese domestic satellite communication systems, and base station and terminal antennas for cellular and micro-cellular mobile communication systems and advanced wireless communication systems.
In 2001, he moved to University of Fukui, and is currently a Professor of Information Science.

His current research interests lie in the area of antennas and propagation for mobile and fixed wireless access systems, especially, wideband printed antennas, smart antennas and multiple-beam aperture antennas.
Dr. Hori contributed Chapter 19 "Application in Mobile and Satellite Systems" in the Handbook of Microstrip Antennas (J. R. James and P. S. Hall, Eds., Peter Peregrinus Limited, 1989).

Dr. Hori is a senior member of the IEEE, and a member of the IEICE and the ITE (the Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers, Japan). He served as Secretary and Treasurer of IEEE AP-S Tokyo Chapter from 1993 to 1994, Vice Chair and Chair of IEEE AP-S Japan Chapter from 1999 to 2000, respectively. He was also Secretary of Technical Group on Antennas and Propagation of IEICE from 1996 to 1998, Senior Editor of the Transactions of the IEICE on Communications (Japanese) from 2001 to 2003, Secretary of ISAP2000 Organizing and Steering Committee, and Vice Chair of ISAP2004 Steering Committee.
He is now Vice Chair of the Technical Group on Antennas and Propagation of IEICE, Associate Editor of the IEICE Transactions on Communications, and TPC Chair of ISAP2007 Steering Committee.
